Jakks Pacific is rolling out new Sonic the Hedgehog figures, featuring new characters from both the classic game series and Paramount's Sonic movie franchise, per newly-leaked retailer reports.

At the same time, buyers should beware of counterfeit figures currently circulating in discount chains.

Why it matters: The American toy manufacturer has consistently expanded its Sonic offerings with figures from all aspects of the series, tapping into nostalgia while also reaching new fans.

What's new: According to leaked retailer listings obtained by Sonic Merch News, the new releases will include four classic-themed characters in a 4-inch "Wave 19" line-up for the mainline series, and four characters in a 5-inch "Wave 3" line-up for the third Sonic movie.

  • Wave 19 includes Classic Sonic, Classic Doctor Eggman, and the first-ever 4-inch Fang the Hunter figure. Another mystery figure is also in the lineup, though details remain unknown.
  • The third wave for Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film introduces Gerald Robotnik, an unannounced character (spoiler below in the dropdown), alongside re-releases of Sonic the Hedgehog (holding an "Emerald" accessory) and Knuckles the Echidna.

The new character expected to be introduced in the third wave of 5-inch Sonic 3 toys from Jakks Pacific is a super transformation form of Shadow the Hedgehog.

Be smart: Sonic Merch News also advised collectors to be cautious when shopping, as a batch of counterfeit Jakks Pacific Sonic figures has surfaced at discount retailer Ross Stores.

  • These bootlegs, including Wave 11 Sonic and Knuckles, Wave 10 Amy, and Wave 12 Super Silver, may appear similar to official releases but are reportedly of poor quality and prone to damage.
