In recent times, Nintendo Direct-style presentations have been on the rise, from other gaming developers to our own fan creators! Today we're going to shed some light on an event that's been going on since 2022: Sonic Fan Fest.
Created by community member Octy, Sonic Fan Fest presents fandom projects such as fan games and animations. Sonic Fan Fest has become an annual tradition in the community, featuring state-of-the-art editing, providing a professional look for the showcase, and matching the high-quality projects it spotlights.
Sonic Fan Fest 2026 is set to feature over 30 projects, highlighting fan favorites such as Sonic Daybreak, Sonic Patient Zero, Project Reignition, and Sonic Colors 3DS!

Through out the past five years, Sonic Fan Fest has evolved into an annual staple in the Sonic community, sharing the stage alongside other fandom celebrations such as the Sonic Amateur Games Expo and the Sonic Hacking Contest. Not only does SFF celebrate the creativity within our own fandom, it serves as a platform for upcoming indie projects.

Is there an excerpt you'd like to add about Sonic Fan Fest?
Octy: Sonic Fan Fest is an alternative take to yearly Game Direct-style presentations. This is the sixth edition, and it's still going strong with new additions every year, all bundled with an original soundtrack, animations, intermissions, hosts, exclusive collaborations, and adrenaline-pumping editing. This event aims to highlight the insane creative force that is the Sonic Community, and to do it in its own exciting yearly event! Expect lots of creators like MelohRush, Chaomix, Mr Lag, and more during this year's edition, to be the presenters of the game trailers you'll see very soon. I am Octy, the creator of this event, and it's a pleasure to be here.
Is there anything viewers can expect from Sonic Fan Fest?
Octy: This year's edition will be heavily focused on Final Fantasy Sonic X6! A lot of cutscenes were entirely re-animated, including the famous opening that was completely re-arranged and remixed by the talented Stuart Woolley, Cori Adkins, and Kizakoto, who worked on titles such as Project Reignition and Surge Generations. Sonic Fan Fest 6 is also inspired by the game UNBEATABLE, all while having a distinct style that I developed over the 5 previous years while making this event. I can say that there will be major reveals from big titles such as the definitive release of Project Reignition, Sonic Daybreak Demo 2, a remake of Sonic Chrono Adventure, Sonic Frontiers Revisited news, and a lot more!
SFF 6: Expo Edition will be 45 minutes long, and the full version on YouTube will be 1 hour and 30 minutes. Due to the Sonic Expo Guidelines, the video couldn't exceed this duration, so I hope that the people who watched the event at Expo could also tune in at the YouTube release. There are a lot of promising games that, unfortunately, had to be cut, as well as homages from BlackDevilX's family and close friends. I guarantee you that both versions are worth it. Thank you to Tails' Channel and SynMania for allowing us to be present on this website as well. It means so much as an artist to not only have a show airing physically at Sonic Expo, but to also have an article on an iconic website that I've followed for multiple years.

If you're heading to Sonic Expo: Atlanta this year, Sonic Fan Fest will be screening a sneak peek at the convention on 7 August. The full presentation will be released on YouTube on 31 August.
